People
People are at the core of our business and central to our efforts to connect South Africans to a more equitable world. We are particularly proud of the Telkom Foundation , which has shown how education can contribute to the social welfare of our youth and the transformation of disadvantaged communities.
Telkom supports a high-performance culture founded on strong leadership, transparency, accountability and collaboration. Talent retention and digital skills, especially in the fields of cybersecurity, systems engineering, data science and engineering, as well as Artificial Intelligence (AI), remain a priority for the sustainability of our business.
It is significant that five out of seven appointments made at Group Executive level during 2023 were black women. We have achieved noticeable growth in gender and race diversity as part of our talent plans. Read more about our Board Diversity Policy.
Internships and learnerships ensure a pipeline of talented youth for our business. This approach helps to address the challenges of inequality and youth unemployment in South Africa. Other initiatives intentionally develop future leaders at operational, tactical and strategic levels. Find details about these initiatives in our Integrated Report.
SHE - Safety, occupational Health and Environmental management
Telkom’s Health and Safety regulations are designed to safeguard employees from workplace hazards, reduce the risk of accidents and minimise occupational illnesses. Our motto: ‘Safety starts with me’, underlines the responsibility of every individual to prioritise safety. Adherence to guidelines such as the proper use of technology, equipment and wellness resources, combined with comprehensive training, helps to prevent injuries and ensure the physical and mental well-being of workers.
