Notice Relating to the Unauthorised Access to Customer Personal Information
During September 2024, Telkom received a complaint from a whistleblower regarding the suspected unauthorised sharing of his/her Telkom account information with a third party. On investigation of the whistleblower’s complaint, Telkom found that a Telkom franchisee employee had unlawfully copied the personal information of certain Telkom business customers and shared it with a third party.
Upon discovering the unlawful conduct of the franchisee employee, Telkom reported a criminal case to the law enforcement authorities against the third party, its representatives, and the franchisee employee. Following this, the franchisee suspended its employee pending disciplinary action. Furthermore, Telkom obtained an urgent interim court order to (i) conduct a search and seizure operation at various premises and interdict the third party(ies) from using Telkom’s customer personal information.
Telkom customers are urged to be vigilant when contacted by third parties purporting to be Telkom partners, sub-contractors, or representatives. Please report any suspicious requests and/or communication to popi@telkom.co.za.
The affected customers will be contacted directly.
We are continuously monitoring the incident and assure you that every reasonable step is being taken to protect your personal information through our risk-mitigating actions.
If you or your business have any concerns or queries related to your services, please contact the designated Telkom Sales Account Manager, alternatively email reinstate@telkom.co.za or call (0800203172). We will gladly assist you with any of your service-related concerns or queries.
