Telkom today pledged to pay R1 000 000 per player for a SPAR Proteas Netball win of the Netball World Cup in Liverpool and R500 000 per player for the silver medal.
The Netball SPAR Proteas are on a winning streak having won all five matches to make it to the semi-finals. Telkom is confident that the team will continue this winning streak and players should be rewarded for this performance.
Telkom Executive Group Communication, Mooketsi Mocumi said “the Telkom pledge ensures that the Netball players will be rewarded for the remarkable performance. This Telkom pledge will bring parity to women’s remuneration in sport.”
This is not the first time that Telkom has shown its support and investment to Netball. This year, Telkom was announced and unveiled as the new partner to Netball South Africa. This resulted in the league being officially known as the Telkom Netball League. A local league that saw 10 teams from nine provinces competing for the prestigious prize of being crowned the best.
This move by Telkom is not only a continuation of its support for the sport but a demonstration of confidence in women’s sport and showing support to the SPAR Proteas netball team.
“Support for women sport remains a challenge and through our support we hope to inspire others to participate and help create role models for the next generation”, concluded Mocumi.
