Bravado Gaming prevailed over their rivals White Rabbit Gaming at this weekend’s final match of the Telkom DGL Dota 2 Masters Tournament held in Sandton, in a stunning 2-0 victory. The Masters League will culminate in the final event of the year at rAge in October.
“It was a good tournament, and we played very well as a team. We were a bit worried going in, but we had a pretty smooth road,” said Bravado captain Donio “Doni” Teixeira. “If this is any representation of what is to come at rAge, then I’m confident.”
“We’re pretty disappointed,” admitted White Rabbit captain Ryan “ChiDoWi” Lancaster, whose team were named the runners-up. “We expected much closer games – we expected to win. We’ll come back again, but now we have to go back to the drawing board.”
The tournament opened on a sombre note, as players marked the death of Liam “Pontofalax” Lehle, 22, from Damage Control. Lehle died unexpectedly last Thursday, but before his illness had expected to play this weekend.
This was the first South African e-sports event to be streamed live on the big screen, with fans able to watch their teams at Ster-Kinekor Cavendish. Those who preferred to stay home were able to stream the match on the Telkom Gaming YouTube channel. The tournament was hosted by Richard “DeMoNiK” Sjoberg with shoutcasters Devin “Hellbird” Rigotti and Shaun “Profeci” Murell at the helm of the stream.
The eight teams taking part in the tournament were:
