The Telkom Foundation this past weekend joined the Read Trust for another Rally to Read, in order to deliver educational resources to disadvantaged, rural communities in Limpopo.
Rally to Read is a literacy programme that seeks to empower underprivileged learners from rural communities through provisioning of reading material and training of teachers in selected schools.
Telkom Foundation entered into this partnership by sponsoring the programme over a three year period for selected schools.
Approximately 100 Telkom representatives participated in the Limpopo Rally. Educational materials were taken to 12 schools. These were Siyandla, Risenga, Anderson, Babangu, Fuyatha, Maswangwanyi, Kayanene, Langutelani, Hlaketho, Kutsakeni, Hlaneki and Mbhureni primary schools.
“The purpose of visiting the schools is to deliver the materials and to meet the learners and educators, who will benefit from the training provided. Our visits also serve to remind the teachers of their intrinsic importance in the upliftment of the nation at large,” says Ms Mthintso.
