Telkom was recently awarded the Black Management Forum's Progressive Company of the Year Award in recognition of the strides the Company has taken in its latest broad-based black economic empowerment (BBBEE).
Independently verified, in January this year, by the National Empowerment Rating Agency Telkom was certified as a Level 4 contributor to BBBEE, with Value Added Supplier status allowing customers and partners to recognise 110% of their procurement spend for BBBEE with Telkom. This achievement is a marked progression of the company's 2007 BBBEE scorecard rating as a Level 6 contributor.
The most recent verification saw Telkom achieve a rating of 100% for enterprise development and socio-economic development. The Company also achieved a high 98.4% score for preferential procurement.
"These scores are indicative of the trailblazing work performed by Telkom in areas such as empowering our Black suppliers, improving the lives of communities in which we operate, job creation and enhancing the skills of our employees," said Charmaine Houvet, Group Executive: Corporate Affairs.
Added to this Telkom featured prominently in the 2011 Financial Mail Top Empowered Companies Survey. Overall, the Company ranked 54th out of 100 and ranked seventh out of 10 among ICT participants.
"Telkom understands that it has not reached its destination in terms of the transformation journey, but we are not resting on our laurels. The company will continue to engage all stakeholders to constantly address transformation issues across all seven elements of the BBBEE scorecard," concluded Ms Houvet.
