Scam alerts

There is an email doing the rounds in which scammers ask customers to click on a link in the hope of securing a customer’s personal details.

NB: Telkom will never ask for your personal details and other sensitive information over email or the telephone. We will also never ask you to divulge a PIN to your personal accounts, either on email, or telephonically.

Even though e-mails may mimic an official letterhead or email signature, there are telltale signs that unsolicited email might be fraudulent:

Scrutinise the sender’s email address to ensure it is an official Telkom address. Look carefully at unusual characters (where Telkom is written with the numeral “0” instead of an “o”).

Hover over links such as the “Statements & Invoice” or reset password link, and it is obvious that the URL is not a Telkom address.
Watch out for things like unusual characters or numerals. Do NOT click on the link.

The greeting reads “Dear Customer”. Telkom will always use your name

Important: Cybercrime is not limited to phishing emails. You might receive a call or a WhatsApp message. Here too, be aware of the tone and urgency that expects you to act immediately or face negative consequences.
